Who We Are
The Frederick Group is a multi-faceted government relations firm committed to creating opportunities and opening doors for its clients. President Michael Frederick has been recognized as one of the most effective lobbyists by the political trade publication, MIRS. As the managing member of The Frederick Group, he has more than twenty years of governmental affairs experience through his work with professional associations, multi-client lobbying firms and as a senior legislative staff person.
What Sets Us Apart
The Frederick Group stands apart from the current trend in lobbying where firms often represent clients on both sides of an issue, which we believe creates an ethical or financial conflict. We refuse to do that. With the Frederick Group, you have complete assurance that we will be focused solely on providing solutions to your needs in a principled manner.
Unlike many firms who merely react to legislative initiatives, the Frederick Group assists clients with looking beyond the horizon to identify and create opportunities to benefit the client. This may involve funds for special pilot projects, policy discussions, and offering client expertise to agencies.
What We Do
We partner with our clients and serve as an advocate, communicator, issue-manager, and facilitator. We start by developing a thorough understanding of their goals, objectives, and challenges. We help clients develop concise, effective messages with a solid emphasis on policy—not politics.
Our team has more than 30 years of service including more than 16 years providing direct lobbying services to various clients with interests ranging from agriculture to manufacturing to health care. We offer results-oriented strategic advocacy while providing biweekly reports to clients on all legislation that is of interest to a client, including detailed e-mail and phone reports of issues and projects.
How We'll Get You There
Effective representation is learning and understanding every facet of a client’s issues, knowing the client’s needs and proactively communicating those points to policymakers in a clear and concise manner. Only then can a policymaker make an informed decision. We work hard to forge a network of relationships that enables us to successfully represent our clients. It also requires respect, confidence, and earned recognition that can only be gained through years of proven performance and accomplishments.
He’s served Michigan State University as the MSU Greenline External Philanthropy assistant manager, fundraising scholarship dollars for his fellow students. Clement demonstrated his leadership and conceptual ingenuity, coordinating and directing the execution of over 2,000 volunteer hours and recruiting employees and professional development staff, while raising over $5,000 from students alone. Justin also has legislative and marketing experience interning with the Michigan House of Representatives as well as the MSU Alumni Association where he completed his B.A. in International Relations and Social Relations and Policy from James Madison College at MSU.
Clement has always endeavored to give back with an emphasis on returns, serving as a board member on the Fund Development Committee and Chairman of the Alumni Association in the Michigan Youth in Government program as well as a planning committee member for one of MSU’s former Global Day of Service Projects—a part of the second annual Spartans Will Power Global Day of Service—where he partnered with numerous non-profits and community groups whose sole mission was to help Detroit.
President & CEO of the Frederick Group
His colleagues and clients describe him as “thoughtful,” “resourceful,” and “persistent.” But Michael Frederick is more than just the sum of some carefully selected words.
Frederick has been recognized as one of the most effective lobbyists by the political trade publication, MIRS, on several occasions. He has acted as a consultant for national clients like the Portland Cement Association, advising each of them on state strategies covering all fifty states. As the managing partner of the Frederick Group, he oversees the firm’s operations and directs the representation of each client, with interests ranging from agriculture to manufacturing to education.
Frederick’s background situated him in the multifaceted political realm that’s made the Frederick Group successful today. He graduated from MSU with a Bachelor of Arts degree from James Madison College and received his Juris Doctorate from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, subsequently being sworn in by a sitting Justice of the Supreme Court of Michigan.
His passions have always involved advocacy, organization, and leadership. He has run campaigns and served as an aid to numerous legislators in both the House of Representatives and the State Senate, including the Speaker of the House. Prior to forming the Frederick Group in 2008, he was a lobbyist for the Michigan Concrete Paving Association, the present-day Michigan Concrete Association.
Frederick has always looked to emphasize the connection between politics and community by fostering growth on the local level. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Lansing Charter Township Planning Commission, a member of the Lansing Charter Township Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, the Ingham County Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors and the Ingham County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. He has also served as treasurer for the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women realize their potential.
